First we step off to Rocky
Point Holiday, a furiously fast, rollicking
romp. Next you'll be treated to pure genius
in the Finale to Charles Ives' Symphony #2.
Then we'll race through the absolute best, most
favorite circus march of all time, Thunder and
Blazes. Finally, we'll introduce you to
Frank Ticheli, an honest-to-goodness living, breathing
composer who'll tell you all about his own Shenandoah
and his Symphony #2. This one's for everybody who
played in the band or ever wanted to!

Drew Lang, marimba
A
loving remembrance of DWS Founding Conductor Howard T.
Dunn. He was the real deal - a big guy with a big
heart. Made music happen out of sheer love. A
gentle soul and friend to all. Howard left our
world a whole lot better than the way he found it.
Always told his band students to "Play Happy Notes."
And so we will, Mr. Dunn... so we will.

Beverley Benda, soprano
Michael Ford, tenor
Is there anything better
than a Broadway show tune? Yes - a whole night
filled with them! It's hard for the band to play
their horns and sing at the same time, so we've drafted
a couple of singing sergeants from the U.S. Army Band.
Direct from Washington, they are
Master Sergeant
Beverley Benda and
Sergeant First Class Michael Ford.
Two beautiful voices. Fifty great players.
One dazzling night!
Fanfare:
The Maestro's Flourish - William Harbinson
(Boone, NC)

March 14, 2006
Mary Preston, Organ
Everything on this show uses
the
Lay Family Concert Organ. With 4,535 pipes,
this big baby moves a lot of wind. Then again, the
guys & gals of the DWS have been known to move some air
too. And they're always up for a challenge.
So, we're betting Mary's gonna have to pull out every
last stop just to keep up! Wind warnings have been
posted.
