 David Kehler David T. Kehler serves as Associate Conductor of The Dallas Wind Symphony, Founder and Conductor of the GDYO Wind Symphony (Greater Dallas Youth Orchestras, Inc.), and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University Bands at the University of Texas at Austin. In the fall of 2001, Mr. Kehler was appointed Associate Conductor for the Dallas Wind Symphony where he serves as Coordinator for the International Fanfare Project, conducting the DWS Brass Choir at all programs during its subscription concerts at the Meyerson Symphony Center. He also conducts the full ensemble at various civic and community events throughout Texas, including the annual Labor Day Concert in the Park at the beautiful Dallas Arboretum.
Mr. Kehler also serves as Founder and Conductor of the GDYO Wind Symphony, a musical organization affiliated with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestras, Inc. Since its inception in 1999, the GDYO Wind Symphony has quickly grown to become one of the premier youth wind ensembles in the United States. In 2002, the GDYO Wind Symphony was featured on From The Top with host Christopher O’Riley for international radio broadcast, and was a featured ensemble at the 2002 Texas Bandmasters Convention/National Band Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The GDYO Wind Symphony also performs annually as a guest ensemble with the Dallas Wind Symphony on their subscription concert series each year at the Meyerson Symphony Center. In addition to Mr. Kehler’s Dallas appointments, he also is a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. While pursuing a doctorate degree in wind conducting, David Kehler serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant working with all aspects of the University of Texas Bands. Previously, Mr. Kehler served as Director of the Mustang Band at Southern Methodist University, Associate Director of Bands at the University of Rhode Island, and Director of Bands at Bay City Western High School, in Bay City, Michigan. He holds both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Michigan State University, and has memberships in many organizations including the National Association for Music Education (MENC), College Band Director’s Association (CBDNA), Texas Music Educator’s Association (TMEA), Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE), National Band Association (NBA), Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, and an honorary membership in Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority. Mr. Kehler maintains an active schedule as guest conductor and clinician for both concert and marching bands and has provided clinics for bands in Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.
